*A special thanks to Mr. Howard who saved Ms. Smith from spending the rest of her day digging a giant hole. We LOVE you!
While reading the book Ida B in their literature circle, Hive Society Scholars were inspired by the main character and her love of nature (and especially her friends...the trees). Hive Scholars wanted to give back to the environment, so they created a website and reached out to The Great Outdoors Nursery, who graciously donated a live oak. Years from now, the Hive's legacy will live on through the work of these scholars and their gift to the school. Such a cool project, fifth grade. First and second grade was super excited about the new tree when they saw it during P.E. Now I can fill them in on all the details.

That was really cool. I love how the group chose to plant a tree for their social change project. They are so lucky to have them as your home room teacher.
