Well....almost. Here's a little sneak peek of what to expect at the talent show:

Two Fridays ago, our school participated in a city-wide initiative: Keep Austin Beautiful! The Hive Society decided to take on a special project: repainting our courtyard's tired-looking picnic tables. Each block dedicated their time, energy, and sweat to the effort; we can honestly admit that our courtyard (and Austin) is now a little more beautiful.
*We also got some pretty snazzy KAB shirts, too. Many questions, comments, and fears buzzed about the Hive early this morning as scholars expressed concern for the people of Boston and all who were effected by yesterday's tragedy. Today we're focusing on not just the tragedy itself, but about the brave people who ran into the chaos to help those in need. Our hearts and thoughts are with the people of Boston. Articles:Yesterday, the Hive Society spent time studying a classic poem by Emily Dickinson: Hope is the thing with Feathers Emily Dickinson Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all, And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm. I've heard it in the chillest land And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me. The Hive didn't stop there, though! Seeing as we're a Social Emotional Learning community, we had the opportunity to contribute to our Courtyard of Compassion. Ms. Raley (one of our fabulous Kinder teachers) came and helped us create "Hope Stepping Stones" for our outdoor learning space. On top of that, she talked to us about our status as a No Place For Hate campus and we all signed a contract to help keep hope amongst all Cunningham scholars. What a beautiful day for poetry and peace!
Billy Collins has, once again, captured our hearts. After watching (and savoring) his TED talk that focused on his animated poetry, we broke into groups to become experts on the featured poems--delving deep into the corners of figurative language, creative imagery, and literary representation. Happy National Poetry Month! ...Oh, and this totally happened today in 3rd block:
We understand that the Harlem Shake is getting old and annoying, but we just had to get in on the madness..... |
